IRAN CONDEMNS THREATENED US SANCTIONS AS ‘ECONOMIC TERRORISM’

Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned the new economic sanctions imposed by the United States against Iran, describing the action as an instance of “economic terrorism” and “crimes against humanity.” In covering the Foreign Ministry statement, IRNA noted that Aug. 19, the day Trump issued his declaration of economic warfare on Iran, was […]

CHINA’S GLOBAL TIMES: ‘US HAS SET ITS OWN HOUSE ON FIRE’ WITH ‘D-DAY’ SANCTIONS VS IRAN

A scathing editorial in the Aug. 21 Global Times, the influential semi-official Chinese English-language publication, rips into the Trump administration’s announced “economic D-Day” sanctions against Iran, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s preposterous demand that China had better “get with the program.” Excerpts follow: “The so-called ‘economic D-Day’ operation is less a new offensive launched by […]

TRUMP DECLARES ECONOMIC WARFARE ON IRAN

Last night Trump announced “the MOST CRUSHING ECONOMIC OPERATION EVER TAKEN AGAINST ANY COUNTRY!” This operation against Iran “will be Economic Warfare and Isolation on an unprecedented scale.” “Today, I am also announcing that ANY country that allows its financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government entities to provide any type of lifeline to Iran will […]

GRADUALLY ISOLATED UKRAINE IS A VICTIM OF ZELENSKY’S LACK OF FORESIGHT

The plight of Ukraine is rapidly slipping through US President Donald Trump’s fingers with dangerous signals to a bleak future for the embattled nation and its leader Volodymyr Zelensky. The ominous signs do not shield Europe from the brewing storm either. Two public statements on Ukraine by the Trump administration this week point to a […]

NEW US ENVOY BOZELL’S START IN SA IS UNSAVOURY

South Africa’s fate appears to be like water on the palm of the hand of the US administration. A cursory desktop search has a plethora of examples that shows the utterly lopsided bilateral ties between Pretoria and Washington. It need not be like this. Diplomatic relations between two nations are premised on fundamental ethos such as mutual respect, voluntary cooperation and […]

EVERY INITIATIVE COUNTS AGAINST INCREASED BELLIGERENCE

There are, at present, many points of escalating belligerence in the world. From military confrontation, to financial/economic warfare. This spells both increased danger, especially in the case of the Persian Gulf, where there is the threat of triggering nuclear war, to otherwise needless suffering and chaos, as we see with the horror in the eastern […]

THE U.S. IS NOT DEFENDING DEMOCRACY IN VENEZUELA — IT IS ENFORCING CONTROL

The United States insists its actions toward Venezuela are driven by a commitment to democracy and human rights. That claim no longer withstands scrutiny. What is unfolding is not principled foreign policy but a campaign of coercion, punishment, and force designed to impose political outcomes favourable to Washington. This is about power, resources, and control […]

INDIA’S HOSTING OF PUTIN MARKS ALIGNMENT WITH THE GLOBAL SOUTH INSTEAD OF THE WEST

In a visibly divided international world order, cut down the middle between the Global North and Global South, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has nailed his country’s colours to the mast by brazenly defying the West and hosting Russian President Vladimir Putin on a state visit. It is a stance India has not taken lightly. […]

PRETORIA’S GREAT BETRAYAL: HOW SOUTH AFRICA BECAME THE WEAKEST LINK IN BRICS

In global geopolitics, alliances are not just about friendship. They revolve around power, trust, and principle. South Africa’s recent actions raise uncomfortable questions about its true loyalties. Once a strong voice of the Global South and a strategic pillar in BRICS, South Africa now seems the weakest link in a bloc meant to challenge Western […]

IT ALL STARTS WITH INTENTION

Trump says he wants to make America great again. What would be the fifty-year perspective for achieving that? Deporting every person present in the country illegally, ending such “woke” excesses as bizarre drag queen story hours, lowering interest rates, imposing high and unpredictable, wildly fluctuating tariffs on imports? On the latter point, Trump is scoring […]

WE CREATE THE CHANCE FOR HUMANITY TO SURVIVE

At the end of this week, August 8 is Day Ten, decreed by President Trump last week, for Russia to meet his deadline for making progress toward resolution in Ukraine. Or else, Trump pledged to impose more economic warfare by tariffs and sanctions. This strategic threat is among the swirl of important events, and life […]
