U.S. President Donald Trump yesterday showed indifference to Americans suffering the economic hardships resulting from his unprovoked war of aggression on Iran.
Asked by a reporter to what extent Americans’ economic pain was motivating him to strike a deal, Trump replied, “Not even a little bit.”
“The only thing that matters, when I’m talking about Iran, they can’t have a nuclear weapon,” Trump said, before he departed for Beijing.
“I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation. I don’t think about anybody. I think about one thing: We cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon. That’s all. That’s the only thing that motivates me.”
If that attitude persists, it will contribute to the disaster many observers already expect will hit the Republicans in November. Democrats quickly jumped on Trump’s remarks, reported NBC.
Leah Leszczynski, spokeswoman for the Democratic Party in battleground state Michigan, said that while Americans were struggling to pay for necessities, Trump “is saying the quiet part out loud—and it’s equivalent to ‘let them eat cake.’”
