SAUDI ARABIA’S SIGNING “ABRAHAMS ACCORDS” SPELLS DOOM FOR PALESTINIANS

President Donald Trump’s brokered nuclear deal between the US and Saudi Arabia poses more danger to world peace at the behest of sectarian interests that propels the international community dangerously closer to a world war.

The news of this selfish and careless deal – replete with arrogance of power and might – will highly likely trigger an arms race not only throughout Asia and the Middle East, but across a world order so desperately thirsting for peaceful coexistence.

From the outset, the deal is shrouded in predictable controversy and anxiety alike. It is struck at a time of escalating conflict between the US and Iran, and at a great cost to the global economy.

President Trump and his GOP base insist that their bombardment of Iran – this week happening for more than a dozen consecutive days – is premised on Washington’s unwavering stance that Iran must, nay, will never have a nuclear weapon.

Paraphrased, Iran will never be allowed to develop a nuclear power, not even for civilian use as Tehran “cannot be trusted”.

Conversely, the US displays sheer arrogance in announcing the signing of a “civilian nuclear cooperation deal” with the Saudis, Iran’s adjacent neighbours that historically do not drink from the same well.

In my book, there can be too few occasions that can compete with this development in illustrating the self-serving nature of the powerful forces against their weaker adversaries.

Now, no one needs to be on the side of Iran to reach a worrying conclusion from the Trump’s latest diplomatic triumph. Washington’s only interest in the region is the insulation of Israel from all forms of harm – real or perceived.

Trump’s revelation of the “condition of sale” of a nuclear deal to the Saudis was as more telling as it was concerning.

The Saudis, insisted the notoriously transactional US president, will have to first join the “Abraham Accords” that normalizes ties with Israel.

That’s the sting in the tail, the cost of the deal. Take it or leave it. And this stance of the US alone seeks to alter the path of history, and map out the new route to destiny.

The Abrahams Accords – a series of landmark normalization of ties between Israel and a host of Middle Eastern, predominantly Muslim countries – are a fundamental objective of Washington’s foreign policy.

The overall strategic objective of the Abrahams Accords is to build “an integrated regional alliance to counter primarily threats like Iran”. However, more significantly, the goal of the pact is aimed at bolstering American geopolitical influence throughout the region.

Through the Abrahams Accords, the US seeks to dismantle the already weakened Arab League, and build Israel into an omnipotent nuclear power that it already is anyway.

The pact was first signed by the UAE and Bahrain in 2020, formalizing ties with apartheid Israel and abandoning support for the liberation of Palestine.

Morocco is also in this group, so is poor Sudan, who signed a “general declaration” whose implementation has been delayed by civil war.

“Steady but sure appear to be the US strategic motto in systematically destroying Islamic opposition to Israel’s genocidal occupation of Palestine. Getting Riyadh as a signatory to the Abrahams Accords is a major coup for the Trump administration.

The Saudis are a regional power of note. To have Saudi Arabia abandoning support for the Palestinian revolution is no mean feat. It is therefore inconceivable to see meaningful opposition to Israel’s reign of terror in Gaza and the occupied territories. Lebanon is a de facto territory of Israel. Hezbollah has been terribly weakened and poses minimal threat to the hegemony of Israel in the region.

With the Saudis finally in the back-pocket of the US hook, line and sinker – the “Greater Israel” agenda of unfettered expansion is in full swing.

The influence of the US in the region is almost total. It is a complete take-over, a bloody coup of the region as the annihilation of Iran shows.

Syria, one-time nemesis of the Jewish State, has long been put in its place. It would not be a surprise if Syria, too, append their signature to the Abrahams Accords in exchange of economic boom characterized by the erection of a US military base.

All members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), i.e., Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, UAE, are proud home to the US military bases from where Iran is being attacked amid a relentless wave of wanton bombardment.

For the uninitiated, this is why Iran is retaliating by attacking these GCC countries in pursuit of US interests under a policy of “an eye for an eye”. Hypocritical Western nations condemning Iran’s retaliatory military fight-back claim Iran “is attacking innocent countries not involved in the conflict”. Well, do the Math.

All of the GCC countries pay lip-service to the Palestinian cause for self-determination and statehood. Their membership to the GCC means end of hostility to Israel and adoption of the “silence of the lambs” towards freedom for the beleaguered Palestinians. That is the price the GCC nations are prepared to pay for their spineless bilateral ties with the US.

Given Trump’s aggressive push for Israel’s uninterrupted dominance of the region, the bombardment of Iran – including nuclear facilities as Trump warned this week – is a fait accompli.

Trump probably meant it when he warned several weeks ago that with Iran not signing Abrahams Accords-style deal to end the war, the US military will erase Iranian civilization and wipe off Tehran from the face of the earth.

Saudi Arabia’s signing up to the Abrahams Accords is the final nail in the coffin of Palestinians. It is made more tragic by the fact that the Arab League is all but dead. New bodies such as the GCC and appetizing bilateral relations with the US are the new normal.

A flurry of diplomatic ties with Israel by more Muslim-majority Middle Eastern nations looms ever so large under the supervision of the world’s leading super-power.

The lure of economics over politics of morality and principle has triumphed hands-down. And these developments mark a historic shift particularly in regional but also generally in international diplomacy.

It paves a way for unprecedented cooperation with Israel, not so long ago a pariah across the Muslim as well as Majority World. This will in due course be underscored by dramatically increased trade and tourism marked by people-to-people diplomacy.

Mark my words, these developments would soon be sealed with a greater, broader, military cooperation. More willing Middle Eastern nations, feeling isolated by their economically performing neighbours that lists the US as a “big brother”, will highly likely walk away from supporting Palestinians to demonstrate their embrace of Israel.

Theirs will be a script written in the White House. Its main theme will be politics of the stomach disguised as preparations against “imminent Iranian attack”.

It should therefore surprise no one that more Middle Eastern nations, like Saudi Arabia, will be lured to sign Abrahams Accords in return for “civilian nuclear cooperation” with the US. This will be cited as protection of their sovereignty against “imperial” Iran.

Through it all, Israel will grow truly omnipotent, arrogant and offensive, buoyed by the new status as the world’s new “mini-US”.

And then, countries such as South Africa and many across the Global South will continue to be isolated for taking a stance against Israel, or for not signing the Abrahams Accords that could soon be globalized with a threat of tariffs.
