SEPTEMBER 11,TRUTH, AND NUCLEAR WAR

The 171st meeting of the International Peace Coalition, which convened on the 25th anniversary of the Sep. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, took up the vital question: How must one think in order to envision a pathway out of the crisis facing the world today? If one is to resist the temptation of giving up all hope and embracing a fatalist view, how can one envision a viable pathway forward?

“Truth in history is important,” Helga Zepp-LaRouche told the meeting on Friday. If mankind is to survive this increasingly perilous situation, truth, in all its forms, must be re-established. In particular, she noted, it must be understood how the 9/11 attacks “opened a new chapter in the history of the whole world,” launching a process of endless wars against non-enemies abroad, while corroding and stupefying citizens at home.

A good example of this was given by prominent activist and national chair of 9/11 Families United Terry Strada, who bluntly told attendees at the national 9/11 memorial in New York on Friday: “For 25 years, administration after administration, including leaders in front of us here today, chose to protect the Saudis instead of standing with the 9/11 families. They withheld evidence, they vetoed JASTA, they broke promises—both public and private. It has been one betrayal after another.” Former presidents Bill Clinton, George Bush, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden were all in attendance.

During Friday’s IPC meeting, which also received a greeting from Mrs. Strada, former CIA analyst Ray McGovern gave a harrowing report on former Transportation Secretary Norm Mineta’s account of an exchange between Vice President Dick Cheney and an aide during the attacks in 2001. Cheney appeared to call for the military to “stand down” as another hijacked plane was approaching Washington, raising the obvious question about the ongoing coverup of what really happened that day. “We have to act as our forefathers and mothers did 250 years ago,” McGovern concluded. “Get a hold of ourselves, get a hold of the truth.”

Given this situation, and the lies that have been allowed to fester in the West, is it any wonder why the world today stands on the brink of thermonuclear war? European war hawks plunge ahead in support of Ukraine despite the latter’s increasingly dangerous strikes on Russian targets. The London Telegraph even cheered on Ukraine’s attacks on Russia’s strategic nuclear bomber fleet—a pillar of Russia’s nuclear triad—attacks which, under the Russian State Policy on Nuclear Deterrence, allow for the use of nuclear weapons in response. Similarly, Lithuania is now considering lifting all prohibitions on stationing NATO nuclear weapons on its territory, and Poland’s foreign minister is calling for the mass expulsion of Russian diplomats from Europe.

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, in an interview on Sep. 10, expressed a view which is becoming increasingly widespread in Russia as it loses what little trust it still had in the West. As these and other events underscore, the West is deliberately trying to bring the world to the “brink of nuclear apocalypse,” he said, saying its support for Ukrainian strikes on peaceful Russian cities are “aggressive actions that could one day trigger World War III. And that means erasing the entire history of human civilization, returning it to a primitive state, if any of the billions of people on the planet were to survive at all.”

Evil deeds, left unaddressed, have a way of corrupting a society which tolerates them—and will eventually lead to its destruction. However, they can also provoke a moral and human response to fight for something better.

On Sep. 12, the 2026 BRICS Summit begins in New Delhi, where leading nations from around the world will be convening to discuss the creation of a new, just world system that is not dominated by today’s Anglo-American slime-mold. These are nations that, despite their differences and challenges, know a future without hegemony and geopolitics is possible, and intend to bring it about. Will the thinking citizens of the West join them in making this breakthrough?

Listen to the Schiller Institute NYC Chorus’ historic 9/11 tribute conference, “Beethoven’s Ninth—A Pathway Out of War,” and enjoy the challenge of creating a more beautiful future.
