THREATENED END OF UKRAINE WAR DRIVES NATO HAWKS INTO DESPERATION

Two months ago, NATO released a new propaganda video as part of its “Strategic Foresight Analysis,” which lays bare the demented view of the world lurking behind so many of today’s crises. The narrator elaborates: “We have a pretty good idea of what the future of war looks like…. Even more than in the past, technology will provide decisive advantages, from AI to surveillance systems, from drones to hypersonic missiles. And yet, war will remain an essentially human endeavor. Manipulating the opponent’s emotions and understanding will be just as important as denying access to our spaces. The human mind will be a battle space in its own right… For some, war in the anthroposphere is not off-limits, including psycho-pharmaceuticals, attacks on the eco-system, and weaponized bacteria… For NATO, this means we have no time to lose; tomorrow starts today. Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to take this foresight to warfight.”

If you thought this is more fiction than fact, think again. Consider the December 15 remarks by the new Chief of Britain’s MI6, Blaise Metreweli, in her first public address since taking office earlier this year. “We are being contested from sea to space, from the battlefield to the boardroom. And even our brains, as disinformation manipulates our understanding of each other and ourselves. Across the globe, we are now confronting not one single danger, but an interlocking web of security challenges—military, technological, social, ethical even—each shaping the other in complex ways. We are now operating in a space between peace and war.” In today’s world Metreweli concludes, “The front line is everywhere. Online, on our streets, in our supply chains, in the minds and on the screens of our citizens.”

Of course, the undercurrent of these statements is that we are at war with Russia, and likely China, too. And, therefore, as NATO Secretary Mark Rutte said last week, we must be prepared to fight on “the scale of war our grandparents and great-grandparents endured.” Or, as France’s top general, Fabien Mandon, said last month, France should be “prepared to accept losing its children” in the coming war with Russia. This type of hysteria is rapidly being spread across the European continent.

You may ask yourself: Are they really so crazy as to demand a policy of endless war against nuclear-armed Russia and China? However, that would be the wrong question. The real question is: Are they that desperate? And the answer is: Yes.

The old British geopolitical system, which has dominated the world for centuries, is now staring at its potential extinction. Reactions against decades of neocolonial policies, paired with organizing for an alternative by the LaRouche movement and its allies, has led to a situation where a new paradigm of cooperation among the majority of the world is emerging. Add to this the fact that President Donald Trump’s recent National Security Strategy has flipped the script, and risks pulling the rug out from under those Western geopoliticians who were counting on the U.S. to enforce the neoliberal world order at the barrel of a gun.

But merely ripping up the old order is not a solution. If Trump attempts to ignore the glaring bankruptcy of the Western financial system—as indicated by last week’s decision by the Federal Reserve to restart $40 billion in monthly liquidity injections—it will only make the problem worse. Similarly, transitioning to a long-term confrontation with China, or moving forward with an attempted overthrow of the Maduro government in Venezuela—as Trump is threatening to do with his announcement of a full blockade on Venezuelan oil tankers—will only guarantee more geopolitical tensions and instability in the future.

Instead, Helga Zepp-LaRouche has insisted we use the opportunity created by the breakdown of today’s neoliberal world order to establish a system worthy of the dignity of mankind. As she wrote in her latest statement: “Each respective country must announce its withdrawal from NATO and, at the same time, convene a new conference in the tradition of the Peace of Westphalia, at which a new international security and development architecture must be developed that takes into account the interests of every nation on this planet.”
