At the same time that the Trump-Xi summit is being held in Beijing, the foreign ministers of the BRICS nations will meet in New Delhi over May 14-15, and will set the agenda for the heads of state summit in September, chaired by India this year.
RT reports that the meeting “is expected to focus on key geopolitical issues, including the conflict in the Middle East.”
That will not be an easy discussion. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will be there, as will a representative for the U.A.E.—which has sided with the U.S. and Israel in the war on Iran.
Host India also has a diplomatic soft spot for Israel, and wants to tone down any language on Gaza. They have also called for peace in the Iran war, but have refused to “take sides.”
China’s foreign minister will not attend, as he will be tied up with the Trump visit to China.
RT adds: “Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will travel to New Delhi for the talks…. He will hold bilateral talks with [Indian Foreign Minister] Jaishankar and other Indian officials. Preparations for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India for the September summit are also likely to be discussed.”
At the same time, the BRICS New Development Bank will be meeting in Moscow. New Development Bank head Dilma Rousseff was received by Russian President Vladimir Putin, as he has repeatedly done to show support for the NDB, who again wished her well in the NDB’s endeavors.
