THE FUTURE WE SHARE: XI JINPING AND CHINA-SOUTH AFRICA RELATIONS: THE GEN Z YOUTH PERSPECTIVE

The public is warmly invited to attend a distinguished Seminar and Book Launch Gala Dinner celebrating the publication of The Future We Share: Xi Jinping and China–South Africa Relations: The Gen Z Youth Perspective, authored by young South African writers, Michael Mayalo and Thabiso Mthembu.

This special event will bring together leaders, policymakers, academics, youth representatives, members of civil society, and the broader public to engage in meaningful dialogue on the evolving relationship between China and South Africa and the role of young people in shaping a shared future.

A resounding highlight of the evening will be the official presentation and discussion of the book by its authors, Michael Mayalo and Thabiso Mthembu, whose work offers a unique Gen Z perspective on China–South Africa relations, youth diplomacy, and people-to-people exchanges. Their insights and reflections will take center stage as they share the inspiration behind the publication and their vision for the future of bilateral cooperation.

The seminar will also feature contributions from distinguished guests, including:

  • Wu Peng, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to South Africa
  • Nomvula Mokonyane, President of the South Africa–China Friendship Association
  • Luyanda Jonas, President of the China–South Africa Youth Federation
  • Steve Letsike, Deputy Minister in the Presidency

Members of the public, students, professionals, youth leaders, community organizations, academic institutions, and stakeholders from all sectors of society are encouraged to attend and be part of this landmark occasion.

Thabiso Mthembu

Thabiso Mthembu is a political activist and writer with a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations. His work explores global politics, diplomacy, and development in Africa, with a focus on regional cooperation, foreign policy, and social justice. As an engaged activist, Thabiso advocates for inclusive peace and security, governance and equitable international relations, highlighting Africa’s evolving role in global affairs.
