FORMER PRESIDENT MBEKI TO ADDRESS DIRCO’S ANNUAL PEACE AND SECURITY DIALOGUE

Former President Mbeki to address DIRCO’s inaugural Annual Aziz Pahad Peace, Security and Human Rights Dialogue.

The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) will host the inaugural Annual Aziz Pahad Peace, Security and Human Rights Dialogue on Monday, 31 March 2025, in Pretoria.

Former President Thabo Mbeki will deliver a keynote address at the event.

The event will be held under the theme: “Constitutionalism as the Foundation of Nation Building and Social Cohesion: 30 Years of Freedom, Equity and Justice in Post-Apartheid South Africa”.

In recognition of the contribution and the ground-breaking work done by the late former Deputy Minister Aziz Pahad towards peace and mediation, Minister Lamola will host the dialogue to honour the legacy of the distinguished politician and anti-apartheid activist known for his commitment to peace and diplomacy.

The objectives of the Annual Peace and Security Dialogue are:

  • To get various stakeholders to share knowledge, experiences and encourage collective reflections on the requirements of building sustainable peace and build upon the post-conflict reconstruction and development processes worldwide.
  • To celebrate 30 years of freedom and democracy, recognising the contribution of the negotiators and mediators whose work ushered in the era of respect for human rights.
