The Communist Party of China (CPC) continues to provide unparallelled political leadership steeped in ethical leadership and moral uprightness.
This week, the 20th Central Committee of the CPC concluded its fifth plenary session In the Chinese capital, Beijing, which was attended by 162 members and 117 alternates. There were also other critical stakeholders such as scholars, academics, top civil servants and other deployees to important functions of the country’s public governance system.
Chinese President Xi Jinping – in his capacity as the General Secretary of the Central Committee – delivered an important address, basically laying down the marker and issuing fresh marching orders for the CPC’s overall leadership at all levels to be exemplary.
The world was watching. It has been under the consistent leadership of the CPC that China has become an economic and geopolitical superpower in the 21st century.
There are many plaudits that are due to the CPC, simply too many to mention one-by-one. However, the universally acclaimed triumph of the Chinese socio-economic model under the CPC has seen more than 800 million people taken out of poverty within a decade. Such was the significance of the achievement that the UN heaped praise on the Chinese governance model under the CPC, pointing out that President Xi has led China to achieve one of the key Millenium Goals of the UN ahead of stipulated time.
In the communique of the fifth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of CPC, the lower sections provide clarity on China’s formula for the country’s incredible upward trajectory. It reads: “Looking back on the party’s journey since its founding, the Central Committee pointed out at the session that the key to the success of the Communist Party of China in winning one victory after another lies in its pursuit of the high ideal of communism, its dedication to achieving lasting greatness for the Chinese nation, and its commitment to seeking happiness for the Chinese people and rejuvenation for the Chinese nation.”
Among this week’s plenum’s adoption of the Resolution of the Central Committee of the CPC was to “persevere with full and rigorous party self-governance”.

In 2012, during the 18th National Congress of the CPC, a significant resolution was adopted, paying a special focus on “discipline inspection and supervisory organs” across the length and breadth of Peoples Republic of China.
Consequently, through this system, 8,105 million cases were filed with the authorities and, out of that number, 7,922 million people, including 963 officials registered at and supervised by the CPC, had been punished.
There is one clear indicator to China’s good governance system consistent with the CPC’s ideology: Consequence Management. It doesn’t matter who the breaker of the law is, discipline is guaranteed.
But it was this week’s adopted resolution of the Central Committee of the CPC under General Secretary Xi, which resolved to combat corruption.
It was among four areas identified at a media briefing as “maintaining a tough stance against corruption, strengthening checks on and oversight over the exercise of power, fortifying the cultural-ethical foundations for championing integrity and disdaining corruption and lastly, enhancing coordinated efforts to prevent corruption by rooting out audacity, opportunity, and desire”.
This, already, paints a picture of a CPC that takes a dim view of men or women who enter public office to serve their own selfish interests at the expense of the country’s hoi polloi.
This factor was stressed by Zhang Fuhai, deputy secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC who is also the deputy head of the National Commission of Supervision at a media briefing this week when he explained overarching guiding principles from the fifth plenary session of the CPC’s 20th Central Committee.
President Xi also delivered explanatory remarks enroute to the adoption of the resolutions. Under his continued leadership of the ruling party, “the CPC will adhere to the general principle of pursuing progress while ensuring stability, fully and faithfully applying the new development philosophy on all fronts”, he told delegates.
Furthermore, the CPC will “implement the Five-Sphere Integrated Plan and the Four-Pronged Comprehensive Strategy in a coordinated way”. This will be done by balancing domestic and international imperatives, ensuring both development and security”, President Xi said.
The CPC, with General Secretary Xi at its core, also said that the CPC advanced Party building “as a great project and then a great new project in the periods of revolution, development, and reform”.
He also said that the “Party has found two answers to the question of how to escape the historical cycle of rise and fall: the people’s oversight over government and the Party’s self-reform”. Additionally, the CPC will “forever stand out in the history of Marxist parties” world-wide.
The future of China under the leadership of the CPC, with President Xi at its core, is seized with both present and future, determined to ensure that the arty will never fail in building the country into a model of envy for Marxist parties in particular everywhere in the world.
In pursuit of these noble political goals, Party members were called upon during the session to rally more closely around the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core and fully “implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era”.
The Party membership was also urged “to forge ahead with dedication and enterprise, persevere with full and rigorous Party self-governance, and continually break new ground in supervising, governing, developing, and strengthening the Party, and unite and lead the Chinese people of all ethnic groups in a tireless effort to build China into a great modern socialist country in all respects”.
Of course, the CPC offers many lessons to all former liberation movements across the Global South. Avoid the rise and fall cycle, or syndrome, by always putting the masses of the people first. Be discipled, selfless, trustworthy and dependable. Above all, be beyond reproach!
Any Party that focuses on the welfare and development of its people, like the CPC, is bound to stay in power with a resounding approval of ordinary people. Under the CPC, the vast majority of the Chinese people no longer know hunger, the levels of enlightenment are on the rise, infrastructural development is a marvel for the entire world to watch and corruption is the People’s enemy number one.
And the beauty of the CPC is that it is a Party that is willing to share experience and knowledge with like-minded Marxist formations. When the people are in gainful employment, happy, and enjoying the fruits of a government they can trust, the levels of crime are almost non-existent, corruption rare, innovation galore and general prosperity is both tangible and ubiquitous. Those are the lessons the CPC with President Xi at its core offer the world freely.
