The most natural state of humanity is the state of genius: the fundamental creative state associated with both discovery of true universal principles and with love of beauty. The state of war, otherwise known as the geopolitical system, absent that human quality of creative genius, is now, quite naturally, being rejected on the world stage by the majority of humanity. The contrast between these two conditions of our species is on full display this week as the UN General Assembly high-level debate begins in New York.
Brazilian President Lula da Silva put the issue squarely on the table in his speech on Tuesday morning: “The UN is failing in one of its most important missions: to rid humanity of the scourge of war.” Addressing the pressing question of what kind of system humanity will choose to govern itself, Lula said, “Leading is to reconcile the interests of the nation with those of humanity…. This General Assembly…needs to focus on issues crucial for the future of humanity. We are called to choose between multilateralism or unilateralism, democracy or extremism, sovereignty or subordination.”
In what was a not-surprising but nonetheless shocking counterpole to Lula’s speech, President Trump then gave a 40-minute imperial diatribe about how great the American hegemon is, and how committed to peace he is, including a fantastical list of all of the wars he has supposedly ended (conveniently omitting those he started). For example, the illegal operation against Venezuela, of which Trump baldly said, “It was a war, but it’s perhaps the biggest deal ever made. To the victor belong the spoils.” Threatening Iran with the same kind of “deal,” Trump demanded that all nations support the U.S. in its illegal war against Iran, threatening, “I have a decision to make. Do I drive them into Hell, or do we make a deal?”
Marco Rubio, accompanying Trump to New York this week, did his part to defend the imperial looting operation. Asked in an interview with NBC about the skyrocketing diesel prices as the Iran war rages on, Rubio first feigned surprise, and then offered the puzzling logic that if the US hadn’t attacked Iran, the prices would, in fact, be double, since Iran would have a nuclear weapon. The same little Marco Rubio puffed out his chest later in the day to brag about the new Greenland “deal” that will give the U.S. de facto control over Greenland, both militarily and economically, in preparation for NATO’s intended wars against Russia and China.
However, against the background of the great majority of nations now rejecting the neocolonial system, the imperial bluster is seen for what it is, and the increasingly decrepit condition of the Western elites is plain for all to see. Case in point is the recent state election in Germany, in which Chancellor Merz’s CDU lost so badly in one state that it failed to meet even the 5% threshold required to gain a seat in the state parliament. Pointing to such election trends, a press release by the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) on the latest EU scheme to give Russia’s frozen sovereign assets, now sitting in Brussels, to Ukraine, points out that not only do the European warmongers feel the urgency to steal the funds before they are voted out, but that the measure itself is self-defeating: “The move would undermine the EU’s own ability to maintain the stability of its financial system,” the statement reads. “So the thief will be punished no matter what.”
This sense of natural law, seen in the quite lawful collapse of the imperial structures, is also palpable in the new paradigm taking shape among nations of the Global Majority. Schiller Institute founder Helga Zepp-LaRouche has put out an open letter to the heads of state and delegations at this week’s UNGA meeting, calling on them to use this moment to consolidate a new kind of system:
“This UN General Assembly is the place to put the concept of a ‘New Security and Development Architecture’ on the agenda, which must take into account the interests of every single country on the planet,” Zepp-LaRouche wrote. Hundreds of copies of the letter were distributed at the UN and surrounding areas on Tuesday as the session opened, with much more activity and intervention planned for the coming days.
The question in all of this is, which way will the US go? Its founding principles and mission as a nation are the seed crystal of exactly the kind of post-colonial new paradigm that is taking hold around the world; Chinese President Xi Jinping, whose four global initiatives lay the framework to build such a new paradigm, will come to Washington to meet with President Trump this Thursday. The question before the world is: Can the U.S. shake off the chains of the imperial system, and say, along with the Global Majority, that security, development, and peace are one?
